Club Sessions

Due to a large number of pre-enrolments from returning swimmers and those on the waiting list, open enrolment for 2012 is closed. We will not be accepting new enrolments for the 2012 year. If you wish to be on a waiting list, please send an email request to jkm4760@xtra.co.nz and you will be notified if any openings occur in later terms.

Neptune has its Club Night every Monday night, from 6:15pm (ready to start in the pool) until 7:30pm in the school term time.

Neptune does not have a Club Night if a public holiday falls on a Monday during term time.

2012 Club Membership Fees

  • $200 (first child)
  • $200 (second child)
  • $170 (per child thereafter)

Competitive swimmers: an additional $77 per competitor is required, this fee is set by Swim Otago.  As all competitive swimmers are required to register with Swim Otago prior to swimming in any competitions.

Meet us Poolside on Monday nights

Look for the Neptune committee members on Monday nights. We are the ones in the blue Neptune tops walking around poolside, helping the club night run smoothly.

Please make some time to introduce yourselves as we really would like to get to know you better in 2012.

What to expect from Neptune in 2011?

  • Non-swimmers will learn to swim. ( We have excellent coaches)
  • Novice swimmers will get better, and become intermediate swimmers.
  • Intermediate swimmers will progress into the swim squads.
  • Senior swimmers will compete at regional, national, and international meets. “Personal Best” times will be bettered.
Records (both regional and National) may be broken… Many, many kilometres will be swum in training to make these achievements.

OSCA has four squads to accommodate for various ages and levels. For more information on OSCA visit the website at www.oscaswim.org.nz.

So, what is the difference between a Competitive Swimmer & a Club Swimmer?

A Competitive Swimmer is one who wants to compete at regional, national, or international swim meets.

These swimmers have paid a special levy to Swimming New Zealand (currently $77 per year) in addition to the Club annual subscription, which covers the swimmer from July until June in the following year. Payment of this fee gives the swimmer the right to compete in any meet they qualify for, and in any event they qualify for.

Neptune will invoice the competitive swimmers in June for the Swimming New Zealand Affiliation Fee, as a separate cost to the Club fees.

Competitive Swimmers are also generally members of a swim squad and receive intensive coaching several times a week to improve their technique and fitness.

A Club Swimmer is one who is learning to swim and has paid the annual Neptune Club Membership fee.

A Club Swimmer does not need to pay the Swimming New Zealand affiliation fee, but can still compete in a swim meet they qualify for, but are restricted to either 25m or 50m events. This is a way of giving Club Swimmers a taste of competitive swimming, to help them decide if this is an option they would like to take up.

What is the process to enter a Swim Meet?

Swim Meets come in a variety of forms. There are Open Meets, where anyone can enter any event they like.

There are Qualifying Meets, where swimmers must meet a specified time before their entry will be accepted.

We send out Meet Flyers to the Club on a regular basis for the swim meets that Neptune will support. If your swimmer wants to enter, just follow the guidelines in the message. (Check out the Taieri Carnival Flyer that I have sent earlier tonight)

Entries to Swim Meets must come via the Swim Club. If your swimmer would like to compete in a meet, then the entries must come via the Swim Club. You cannot enter individually yourself.

Currently, Neptune will subsidise our swimmers by paying for the first 3 events, excluding relays which Neptune will cover. This is one way to help our competitive swimmers along. However, this is only possible if funding allows it.
This subsidy may be withdrawn at short notice, should financial pressures require the committee to tighten up on its financial budgets.

Swim Meets need Parent Help

For Swim Meets, the main help we will need from the parents of our swimmers is for time keeping.

It is a very easy job, and quite social, too. Time Keepers are well looked after with food and refreshment, plus you get to see the racing up close & personal! It’s such great fun…

If your swimmer is entered in a swim meet, then we do expect some parental help at least once a term. So, if your swimmer is entered, and you are going to be there anyway, then please volunteer to manage a stop watch for at least one session.

Other Parent involvement

There are many ways in which you can become involved in the club:

  • Poolside assistance
  • Technical official: timekeeping, etc. — if you would like to know more about this, please ask!
  • Team Manager
  • Neptune Queen's Birthday Carnival – all hands on deck

Fundraising

A Swim Club is an expensive organisation to run.

Neptune raises its funds from a variety of sources, mainly from annual subscription fees, from successful bids from charitable trusts, from fundraising activities, and from the annual Neptune Queens Birthday Swim Meet.

When we ask for help with fund raising, please be there for Neptune… Money keeps the Club in motion

Club Administration

The club is organised by a committee which meets monthly. Parents can be elected to the committee at the Annual General Meeting. Parents who work as Coaches, Administrators or Technical Officials on behalf of the club, have their Swim Otago affiliation fee paid by the club.

Uniforms

The club has a very attractive hoodie and dry fit T-shirt. They are navy, light blue and white which are the club colours and feature the Neptune logo. Children representing the club on away trips are expected to have a club hoodie, T-shirt and swim cap. Children swimming for the club at inter-club competitions are expected to wear the T-shirt on poolside.
